Dive Brief:
- If consumers have it their way, cooking spray and air freshener may not be the only two aerosol-based products found in tomorrow's kitchens, according to a new survey commissioned by Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies. About 66% of survey participants "would use some type of food and household product if it were available as an aerosol," the press release said.
- The three leading sprayable products consumers asked for included chocolate, salt, and ketchup.
- The main reason for aerosol-based products was ease of use and application. Survey participants 65 and older were even more likely to choose this as their main reasoning, and demand for sprayable foods from families with children nearly doubled that of families without children.
Dive Insight:
As squeezable bottles were one of the latest packaging revolutions in the realm of convenience and ease of use, aerosol could be the next packaging trend. With more consumers on-the-go, convenience has become a key motivator in food purchases.
Also contributing to aerosol's renewed popularity are updates to the technology that have made aerosol more environmentally friendly than in the past, which turned off some consumers.
