Dive Brief:
- General Mills' French Toast Crunch - which debuted in 1995, and was later discontinued in 2006 - is making a comeback in certain supermarkets and retailers in the U.S. The announcement comes from one of the company's blogs, "A Taste of General Mills." The product will be available across the nation by the end of next month.
- "We have been overwhelmed by the consumer conversations, requests and passion for the cereal to come back," Waylon Good, a marketing manager for General Mills, said.
- The cereal has still been available in Canada.
Dive Insight:
General Mills lowered its sales and profit outlook for the year last month, and in October announced a new Cheerios cereal. Perhaps this resurrection of French Toast Crunch will bring enough nostalgia to ramp up sales.
Cereal sales have been poor for the industry, and this move certainly goes along with the trend of companies targeting adults in ad campaigns to try and boost fond cereal memories.
