Reading the plethora of fun food news each week is just one of the perks of editing Food Dive. From Marshmallows Only Lucky Charms to Coke's Twitter shout-out to Pepsi, below are some interesting reads from the past week.
Both NPR’s “The Salt” and National Geographic’s “The Plate” wrote about a new study that showed British babies given “the equivalent of about 4 heaping teaspoons of peanut butter each week, starting when they were between 4 and 11 months old,” says “The Salt,” were at an 80% less risk of developing a peanut allergy by the age of 5.
Marshmallows Only Lucky Charms — but you can't have any
Apparently, if you want a Marshmallows Only Lucky Charms box, you should make it your mission to befriend reality star Kylie Jenner. Or Blake Shelton and Jessie Pitts, to whom General Mills also sent boxes of the special Lucky Charms following a call-out of the cereal's marshmallows on “The Voice.” You won’t see these for sale from the company though, as far as plans go, which makes sense considering the state of the cereal industry and consumers’ health craze.
KFC smelling the coffee...err, edible coffee cup
Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in the U.K. are getting coffee-fied. And by that, we mean customers will soon (“by summer,” says Eater) be able to order edible coffee cups (cookie + white chocolate lining + edible paper). Food Dive reported on an edible coffee cup cone in Los Angeles back in November.
Will Cotton Candy Oreos be the next big thing?! No official statements from Nabisco (owned by Mondelez) have arrived, but Instagram user “cookie0man” shared photos that certainly look like cotton candy-flavored Oreos. You’ll get no complaints from Food Dive if this turns out to be true.
Twitter sighting: Coca-Cola thanks Pepsi
Coca-Cola thanked PepsiCo on Twitter Thursday for a tribute to Don Keough, the erstwhile president of Coke who recently passed away.
Thanks, @PepsiCo, for your gracious tribute to Don Keough in our hometown paper. His legendary leadership made us all better.
