- An estimated 50,000 metric tons of sugar was destroyed in the blaze at the TEAG terminal at the Santos Port in Southeaster Brazil.
- The blaze was the third major fire at sugar operations at the port within a year.

Sugar is combustible. But sugar fires usually aren't all that common. Brazil has been experiencing some very uncommon weather of late, and the region around the port is suffering the hottest and driest weather recorded in decades.
