Dive Brief:
- Cargill Inc. is acquiring Norwegian fish feed producer EWOS for $1.49 billion.
- This is the second aquaculture transaction Cargill has made in the past two months, as the company also announced a $30 million joint venture with Naturisa to build a shrimp feed facility near Guayaquil.
- "As part of the transaction, Cargill will acquire seven feed manufacturing facilities; three in Norway, and one each in Chile, Canada, Scotland and Vietnam, as well as two research and development centers in Norway and Chile," The Wall Street Journal reported.
Dive Insight:
Cargill appears to be shifting its gears under the sea with these recent moves in the aquaculture sector. At the same time, Cargill is working with JBS USA Pork to have the company acquire Cargill's U.S. pork business.
While Cargill is getting out of the pork business, the company is focusing on growth for the future elsewhere.
