Dive Brief:
- Canada and Ireland have the safest food systems among 17 developed countries, according to a report by the Conference Board of Canada’s Centre for Food in Canada and the University of Guelph’s Food Institute.
- The United States, France, England, and Norway were also ranked as "top tier," but fell short of the standards achieved by Ireland and Canada.
- The study ranked performance in 10 categories, including pesticide use, food traceability, and food recalls.
Dive Insight:
All 17 countries in the study have high standards for food safety, according to the report's authors. But there are differences among them as well. Among the most interesting little tidbit in the report is that having high national standards is apparently something that consumers are aware of and want. The public's trust in food safety was also highest in Canada and Ireland.
