Dive Brief:
- Campbell has instituted a voluntary recall of 355,000 14.2-ounce cans of SpaghettiOs Original in response to consumer complaints about a potential choking hazard due to some cans containing pieces of red plastic.
- "This plastic material is from parts of the can lining which may peel off," according to a news release.
- The date Feb. 22, 2017 appears on the base of the recalled cans.
Dive Insight:
The recall harks back to another earlier this year by pre-merger Kraft, which recalled 6.5 million boxes of its Macaroni & Cheese product due to metal pieces appearing in some of the boxes.
Campbell has had to recall SpaghettiOs in the past: once in 2010 for possible under-processing, and a small five-state recall in 2013 because the product was mislabeled: "The label says the cans contain chicken broth, but they actually contain SpaghettiOs with meatballs," the Associated Press reported.
