- The U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry will hold a hearing concerning how the U.S. poultry industry has been affected by avian influenza and to evaluate federal response.
- The hearing date is set for July 7.
- The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services also announced that in North Carolina, all poultry shows and public sales of poultry will be suspended from Aug. 15 to Jan. 15, 2016. Twelve other states have taken similar preemptive actions.

The expectation is that a review by people and organizations directly concerned with bird flu will result in greater protection for the industry. USDA scientists are also attempting to create a new vaccine that could potentially thwart the virus.
