Hot sauce is beloved in the U.S., whether it's coming out of a McIlhenny Company Tabasco, Cholula or Tapatío bottle. A breakdown of hot sauce use by age, however, shows that not all ages share affection for the condiment equally.
About 20.3% of adults overall use hot sauce, according to data compiled by Packaged Facts and based on data from Experian Marketing Services. A 2012 study looking at commonly used seasoning sauces showed that while an age-group high of 23.7% of 18-34-year olds use hot sauce, only 10.3% of those 70 years old and older still spice things up.
Here's the usage breakdown among other groups:
- Age 18-34 (Gen Y)—23.7%
- Age 35-49 (Gen X)—22.1%
- Age 50-69 (Boomers)—19.5%
- Age 70 and older—10.3%
