Dive Brief:
- Arla Foods Ingredients has introduced a new functional milk protein called Nutrilac LowCal. The ingredient is designed to help companies create low-calorie, high-fiber stirred and drinking yogurts.
- Arla offers Nutrilac LowCal in two formulations: one with whey protein and one with whey protein combined with prebiotic fiber. The whey protein formula lets companies make stirred yogurt with 36 calories per 100g of product or drinking yogurt with less than 20 calories per 100g. The fiber formula lets companies make a stirred yogurt with 2% fiber, 5.8% protein and 47 calories per 100g, or a drinking yogurt with 2% fiber, 4.4% protein and 37 calories per 100g.
- Arla claims Nutrilac LowCal produces thick and creamy yogurts that don't need added starches.
