AB-InBev and Teamsters to negotiate new contract

Dive Brief:

  • November will mark the first contract talks between Anheuser-Busch InBev and the Teamsters union since InBev bought Anheuser-Busch five years ago.
  • No specific time or place has been disclosed for the talks, which will cover the contract set to expire on Feb. 28 for over 5,000 workers at 12 U.S. breweries.
  • The existing contract was reached shortly after the 2008 merger announcement and included a renewal of AB-InBev's commitment to keeping all 12 breweries in business throughout the duration of the contract.

Dive Insight:

It's not currently clear whether the issue of keeping all of the breweries open during the contract's lifespan will be on the table once again during the coming contract negotiations. AB-InBev holds 47.6% of the market share for beer in the U.S.
